Biography

Francesco Claudio Marai (born February 17, 1988), known by his stage name Hunterwolf, is an Italian composer, videomaker and artist from Parma.

He started his piano studies at age 4, age when he began to compose his first songs.
Over the years his compositional style has been defined in the fusion of more musical styles, especially of symphonic, electronic and rock genres.

Because of his growing passion for cinema, graphic design and computer science, since he was a child he began to mix different types of artistic expression, often accompanying his electronic and acusmatic compositions with visual works of various kinds and realizing several short films in live action, animation and stop motion.

At the same time he is interested in research and new technologies, especially those related to sound, artificial intelligence and communication.

Electronic and Dance music

In 2006 he debuted as a DJ in the industrial and hardcore techno scene, coming to perform at the biggest electronic music events in Italy and Europe. Among them: Masters of Hardcore, Nocturnal Festival, E-Mission, United Hardcore Forces, We Love Hard, Dorian Gray, History of Hardcore, Evolution Planet, Il Fuoriorario, Shock!, Explosion, In*To*Nation, Gabberitalia, Offlimits, Hard 4 Life.

The same year he releases his first track, “Industrialization”, later included in the album of the same name introducing a new melodic approach to a frenchcore track, unprecedented for that kind of music. This peculiarity will characterize all his production related to this genre, helping to lay the foundations for what is currently called “melodic” or “euphoric” frenchcore.

After his first album “Industrialization”, released under his own label “Paranoiax” in 2009, he intended to climb the international charts of frenchcore and industrial music and beginning a long series of productions reinventing the genre in his typical symphonic style. His productions will be both self published and released by important labels such as Noistorm, Antistatic and Hard Impact Records.

The main EDM styles to which he is dedicated in productions and performances are Hardcore, Hardstyle, Techno, Deep and Progressive House, Hardtekno and Intelligent Dance Music, however, he often mixes the experimental sounds of electronics in live performances with rock and pop bands.

Videomaking and soundtracks

His university studies have long focused on cinema, and over the years he has directed and edited many videos and commercials for several clients and events, mainly for online and local TV distribution.

In 2012 he collaborated with the Youtube channel Alcedo Video, creating the project Alcedo Vibes, which will give the light to the film “Monti Style”, a political satire music video that will collect a huge viral success, getting more than two million views in a few months.
The video will be broadcasted by major television and radio networks including Radio Deejay, La 7 (G Day), Rai 3 (Ballarò), Sky (Speciale Calcio Mercato), Italia 1 (Studio Aperto) and treated by almost all national newspapers.

Over the years he has written several soundtracks for video and theater shows, merging the symphonic and electronic sounds typical of his style.
Among these, the soundtrack of the film “La Punta (The Meetup)” directed by Ricky Re, which will be presented in the “Short Films Corner” at the Festival de Cannes in May 2016.

In 2020 he composed the soundtrack for the movie “L’Uomo Samargantico” by Luca Martinelli. The film achieved some success in the field of independent cinema, also being selected by important international festivals like “Salerno Film Festival”, “David di Donatello Awards”, “Indiecinema Film Festival” and “Golden Smile International Film Festival”.

At the beginning of 2021, after having collaborated in the making of a documentary on Christmas in the time of Covid, for the Hong Kong national public network “TVB”, he won the award for the “Best non-narrative television broadcast of 2020”.

Research and experimentation

A few years after graduating in Communications with his sociological and musicological dissertation about music and its social impact, in 2013 he founded Dreamvim, a project that in addition to dealing with web design and digital marketing, focuses on research and the potential of technology and artificial intelligence to improve human communication.

In 2016, he founded the Heartphony project, which, together with the collaboration of psychologists and neuroscientists, investigates the psychoacoustic effects that sound can have on the mind.

He is constantly engaged in collaborations with projects related to new computer and electronic technologies applied to music, communication, design, and generative arts.

Singing, Operas and Musical

After his degree, he began studying singing at the conservatory of Parma.
From that moment he begins to perform also as a soloist singer and chorister in various events, with occasional roles as an actor in musicals and operas, collaborating with prominent realities among which the Teatro Regio in Parma, the Auditorium Paganini in Parma, the Corale Giuseppe Verdi, the Lions Club International.

In 2014 he performed as a chorister together with the Choir of Verona during the tour of the maestro Ennio Morricone, in 2017 he performed in two official productions of the Rock Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber “Jesus Christ Superstar” in the role of the high priest Caiaphas.
